Set in a certain large country located in the far East. In the inner palace where the imperial harem dwells, is a lone girl. Her name is Maomao. Once a pleasure district apothecarist, now she works as a servant in the inner palace. One day, she learns that all the children of the emperor die young. When she hears that his two living children are both sick and growing weaker, Maomao is intrigued and begins to investigate the cause. She knows there's no such thing as curses. The beautiful eunuch Jinshi has Maomao appointed as the poison tester for the Emperor's favored consort. Although Maomao isn't interested in people, she's obsessed with poisons and medicine - and the former pleasure district apothecarist finds herself caught up in all kinds of rumors and incidents. Despite the increasing weight of Jinshi's orders, Maomao gets the job done. And today, too, this unique poison-loving girl is busy in the inner palace.
